Steve came to Melamed Communications in 2008 from The Nature Conservancy where he directed state public policy. During his tenure, Steve played a major role in the passage of the Great Lakes Compact, Ohio’s renewable portfolio standard, and served as campaign manager for Citizens for a Clean Ohio.
Not surprisingly, Steve has expanded Melamed Communications’ clean energy portfolio and earned a national reputation for his expertise. He has worked on a broad spectrum of initiatives leading coalition building, grass roots outreach, issue advocacy efforts, strategic communications and public affair campaigns.
One of Steve’s proudest moments was helping build and lead a diverse coalition of Ohio businesses, consumer groups, public health interests and environmental groups in successfully defeating two attempts to gut the state’s clean energy law. This coalition became known through the media as the “improbable coalition” and generated a ground swell of national interest. Steve continues to work with this coalition helping to propel a new energy vision for Ohio.
Steve earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Dayton and a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Akron. He currently serves on the board of the Ohio League of Conservation Voters and is a former board member of the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Ohio. When he’s not at work or spending time with his family, Steve enjoys the outdoors as a cyclist for Team Echelon of Columbus.
